Sequence of Pronouns: Important Rules and Uses
Do you know we need to follow an orderly pattern of pronouns? But that sequence of pronouns depends on whether the statements are good or bad.
Sequencing of Pronouns are done in good sense and bad sense.

When there are personal pronouns, e.g., I, you and he are mentioned in the sentence in a good sense, then we need to follow a proper sequence for:
Good/Positive Statements:
Positive statements state facts, opinions, situations, and provide information.
- For 3 persons:
| Sequence: Second Person (You) → Third Person (He, She, Nancy [Noun] ) → First Person (I) {231 sequence for positive statements} |
| Verb: use a plural verb with the 231 personal pronouns sequence |
| Example : You, he and I are conducting a soft skill workshop for the employees’ benefit. |
- For 2 persons:
| Sequence: ● Second Person (You) → Third Person (He, She, Jyoti [Noun]) {23 sequence for positive statements} ● Second Person (You) → First Person (I) {21 sequence for positive statements} ● Third Person(He, She, Mohan [Noun]) → First Person (I) {31 sequence for positive statements} |
| Verb: use a plural verb with the 23, 21 and 31 personal pronouns sequence |
| Examples: ● You and she have participated in the declamation competition. {Second (2) & Third Person (3)} ● You and I were working on this project. {Second (2) & First Person (1)} ● He and I painted a beautiful landscape on the canvas. {Third (3) & First Person (1)} |
Bad/Guilty Statements:
Bad or Guilty statements express unhappy and guilty statements.
- For 3 people:
| Sequence: First Person (I) → Second Person (You) → Third Person (He, She, Nitin [Noun]) {123 sequence for bad statements} |
| Verb: use plural verb with the 123 pronouns sequence |
| Example: I, you, and he are remorseful for stealing veggies from shop. |
- For 2 people:
| Sequence: ● First Person(I) → Second Person (You) {12 sequence for bad/guilty statements} ● First Person (I) → Third Person (He, She, Veena [Noun]) {13 sequence for bad/guilty statements} ● Second Person (You) → Third Person (He, She, Naveen [Noun]) {23 sequence for bad/guilty statements} |
