What is Microteaching?
Microteaching is an instructional strategy where one teaching skill is taught to pupil teachers at a time with a limited number of students. The duration of microteaching lesson plan is basically 5-10 min. In microteaching, feedback is provided by the peer student teachers and supervisor.

Set Induction Skill
Set Induction skill means introducing the lesson with a series of questions where questions are related to student’s previous answers. The teacher should write complete answers in the student’s activity section of the lesson plan.
Components of Set Induction Skill:
- Existing knowledge of the students: Set Induction skill is completely based on the previous knowledge of the learners or students.
- Effective statement of Aim: Teacher should ask only relevant questions to reach effectively to the statement of aim. Here, the statement of aim means announcing the topic in the class.
- Maintenance of continuity: Continuity of questions should be maintained in the set induction skill. Upcoming Questions should be related to the answer to the previous question.
Questioning Skill
Questioning Skill is a technique to construct and ask questions in such a way that it will relate the previous knowledge of the learner with the current or latest knowledge.
Components of Questioning Skill:
- Structure of questions: Questions should be grammatically correct, concise, specific, and relevant to the topic.
- Process: Questions should be asked with proper speed, neither fast nor too slow.
- Types of Questions: Teachers can include developing questions and analytical questions but try to avoid Yes or No questions. Never repeat questions irrelevantly.
Blackboard / Chalkboard Skill
Blackboard skill is a skill that involves mandatory entries on the blackboard (class, duration, subject and date), the topic of the lesson and important details about the topic.
Components of Blackboard Skill:
- Writing: The teacher should stand at 45 degrees while writing on the blackboard. Always remember, the teacher has to focus on the students also while doing blackboard work.
- Clarity: There should be proper spacing between small and capital letters and letters should be visible at the back of the class as well. Avoid grammatical mistakes on the blackboard because, if there are any grammatical errors on the blackboard, then students will also learn wrong and that one is unavoidable.
- Usage of colored chalks: To highlight the important points the teacher should use coloured chalk to underline the words.
Illustration with Examples Skill
Illustration with Examples skill is a technique where a teacher learns how to explain the topic with the usage of different approaches of teaching and audio-visual media.
Components of Illustration with Examples skill:
- Use imaginative and live examples.
- Use Yes/ No questions
- Use audio-visual media such as “flashcards, charts, PowerPoint, storytelling, games, case study” according to the requirement of the topic. Always paste miniatures in the lesson plan if the teacher uses audio-visual media.
Reinforcement with Stimulus Variation Skill
Reinforcement with Stimulus variation skill includes giving positive remarks to the students, students active participation, teachers’ positive gestures and changes in tone of voice.
Components of Reinforcement with Stimulus variation skill:
- Write students’ replies on the blackboard.
- Reinforce students by using a variety of positive words such as “Good, Well done, Correct, Very Good” when students are giving correct answers in the class. But do not mention those remarks in the lesson plan.
- Movement of teacher should not be fast while teaching students.
- Pay attention to the whole class and make sure to ask questions to each student.
